ModSecurity Recognised as the Most Widely Deployed Web Application Firewall by Independent Research Firm
/Networking PR News/ - August 09, 2006 - Thinking Stone, a web application firewall specialist, today announced it had participated in the Forrester WaveTM: Web Application Firewalls, Q2 June 2006 evaluation with ModSecurity, its open source web application firewall product. The evaluation was conducted by Forrester Research Inc., a leading independent research firm.
In the report ModSecurity was recognised as "the most widely deployed web application firewall", with thousands of installations worldwide. "We are very happy to have been invited" - said Ivan Ristic, CTO, Thinking Stone - "It was a pleasure to be among the selected few web application firewall products. It is also a recognition of the fact open source is a viable business strategy. We remain true to our goal to make the web application firewall technology available to everyone, so even the smallest organisations can benefit."
The report cited ModSecurity as a Strong Performer and praised it for its focus and consistency in design. The score card summary also reported that ModSecurity's "stringent implementation standards" push the market toward higher quality products.
About ModSecurity
ModSecurity is an open source web application firewall with thousands of deployments worldwide. Its analyses the HTTP traffic in real time for suspicious behaviour and signs of intrusion, so it can record, detect, and prevent both known and unknown attacks against web applications. It also records the HTTP traffic for forensic analysis.
When configured to work standalone it operates as a reverse proxy and can be used to protect applications running on any web server. Alternatively, it can be embedded directly into Apache web servers. Its unique deployment position gives it full access to raw HTTP traffic, even when SSL encryption and content compression are used.
ModSecurity is an open source product that can be freely downloaded and used. Commercial support contracts are available, as are commercial licences suitable for closed-source development models and OEM distribution.
